Duties and Taxes for International Orders

Overview

Nearly every shipment that crosses international borders is subjected to duties and taxes imposed by the importing country. When shipping with UPS or FedEx internationally, you need to indicate on the shipment who pays the duties and taxes. You can select:

  • Sender
  • Receiver
  • FedEx Only: Third Party

Make your choice carefully because if the customer is faced with big fees, they might reject the package. Certain marketplaces, like Amazon, require the merchant to pay these fees. It is important to check with the original marketplace’s policies.

Settings Configuration

  1. Go to Menu > Options > Carriers Tab.
  2. Select UPS or FedEx carrier tabs.
  3. Go to Bill Duty/Tax to and select your option from the dropdown. Bill duty to receiver4. Click Save.
The Declared Value on international orders is the stated value of the goods being shipped. It’s used when calculating taxes, duties, and other fees applicable when importing goods into a country. The Admin Setting Use Site Cost instead of Adjusted Site Price for Declared Value lets you automatically set the Products’ Site Cost as the Declared Value.
